The Charities
St. Lukes Hospice
St Luke's, Sheffield's only Hospice, opened in 1971 and serves the whole community of Sheffield. Although St Luke's cares for seriously ill people and their families, it is more about living than dying. A quarter of their in-patients are discharged after treatment and many attend day care centres for years.

Their main aim is to give excellent specialist care, which involves physical, psychological, social and spiritual care for patients and their relatives. Day-to-day personal care, such as making sure the food is appetising and the tea is hot, is also vitally important and the staffing we provide enables all our patients to receive the excellent individual care that makes a Hospice such as St Luke's so unique and valuable. We also run two Day Hospices to the north and south of the city plus a wide range of support services for patients and patients' families. All of this is provided free of charge by reference from a general practitioner or specialist palliative care nurse
