"Pour y Parvenir a Bonne Foi"
"To succeed through honest endeavour"
The Motto of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire.
Hallamshire, or South Yorkshire, benefited in the 19th Century from some of the greatest entrepreneurs this country has seen. They were so successful that large businesses developed and along with that an "employed culture".
In the third quarter of the 20th Century, these businesses shed labour and a void was created. This void was filled in the last quarter of the 20th Century and the beginning of the 21st Century by a new breed of entrepreneurs that emerged and developed exciting new businesses, some in manufacturing, some in software, some in design, some in other industries, and along with that came growth and development of businesses in the professions.
Development of skills and talents is all important to our economy. The Master Cutler’s Challenge is designed to tap into this talent, encourage teamwork and entrepreneurship as well as raising much needed money for the Master Cutler’s nominated charities, St Luke’s and Rotherham Hospices. The challenge is to turn £50 into as big a sum as possible for the benefit of these deserving charities.
A group of celebrated local entrepreneurs including Hugh Facey. and Chris Rea will judge the entries and there will be prizes for creativity and innovation as well as for the most money raised. The Challenge has been funded by an initial donation of £5,000 donated by 3i plc.
You are invited to the launch at a Champagne Reception at the Cutlers' Hall on 7th February 2008 at 6.00 pm. For more details please call Faith Douglas on 07917 596 732.
